My name is Michelle McBurney. I’m almost 23 years old and I’m from Murray, Iowa. Almost 2 years ago, my fiancé and I were both offered employment opportunities at Monmouth College, so we moved almost 4 hours away from our families and started our life together in Monmouth. My fiancé is a Track and Field coach and I work in the Admissions office. I started working out about 5 years ago and it’s turned into a huge passion of mine. I began by doing very simple things at home with absolutely no professional knowledge and no idea I could completely transform my life and physique. I’ve been a NASM certified personal trainer for almost 2 years now, and I’ve been working with lifestyle clients online and in person for about a year and a half. I’m currently studying exercise science at Monmouth College with the intent to continue on and pursue a Masters in nutrition. I also recently competed in my first bodybuilding competition. I started my competition prep February 2024 and competed December 2024. In those 10 months, I lost 57 lbs. and learned so much. I have knowledge from education and continuous learning, but I also have gained knowledge from experience. I went from being terrified to step foot in a busy gym, to confidently stepping on stage for a physique sport. I love sharing what I know so that others can also reach their own personal goals. Our goals and dreams aren’t as far out of reach as we may think. Sometimes we just need some extra help getting there. It’s a blessing for me to be able to help others towards a better version of themselves, and that’s why I’m so excited to start working with the Warren County YMCA and the Monmouth community!
